Mamelodi Sundowns' new goalkeeper Reyaad Pieterse says winning silverware is standard at Chloorkop, but his move is also about becoming one of the best in the country.

Pieterse last week moved across Tshwane from SuperSport United to The Brazilians, as he looks to challenge himself at what he perceives to be a higher level.

The 26-year-old former Kaizer Chiefs shot-stopper feels he is yet to reach his prime, and believes this move will aid his hopes of becoming “the best” as he competes with former African-based Player of the Year Denis Onyango.

“To be honest, I don’t even feel like I’ve hit my prime yet and, as you know, they say goalkeepers mature at a later stage,” Pieterse tells

“Of course we would all like to be playing, but I feel like this move is to get better. I know for sure we’re going to win trophies, but it’s also to improve and compete with the best.

“Like they say, to be the best you’ve got to beat the best, and what a platform this is for me to do that.”

Pieterse will miss out on registration for the club’s current CAF Champions League campaign, after being registered for Matsatsantsa in the early stages of the Confederation Cup, but is eager to help his new club in the next edition which kicks off in November.

“I obviously can’t play [Champions League] now because I’m cup-tied, but I’m obviously hoping we can go far,” he says.

“In the future, starting with the next Champions League, if there’s an opportunity to play then why not? It’s a good platform and a good stage to play in and to also get noticed.”
