"I've always said Celtic have got a good squad," said Larsen, who steered Celtic to Telkom Knockout honours in 2012.
"I think they under performed in the last two seasons in particular.
"Steve has been there for a while now and fortunately for them he has had the entire pre-season.
"We do know that they've had their problems but Steve is a wily old coach and he knows how to get around these issues, so we expect a difficult game.
"They're going to be pumped up. I think whenever as coaches we come up against our ex-teams there's always an extra bite to the game, and I think it's going to be the same against Celtic.
"But we are expecting a very, very difficult game against Celtic," concluded Larsen ahead of the 19h30 kick-off.
