Cape Town City winger Surprise Ralani believes their squad is good enough to win the Absa Premiership title in only the club’s third year of existence.
City placed in the top eight again last term, and while they’ve occupied some high spots on the table, they have never been able to finish the season strong enough to get over the finish line first.
This campaign, however, Ralani believes they have what it takes to go all the way and make history for themselves. It would be a special achievement for not only the players, but for coach Benni McCarthy who is entering his second season as a head coach in the PSL.
The Citizens have had a busy pre-season, playing against the likes of Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Bidvest Wits. These are good clubs to play against to test themselves.
They host SuperSport United at Cape Town Stadium in their first Absa Premiership match of the season tonight (18h00).
“Yes, I’d say that. I am quite confident in the squad that we have. We have a mix of experienced players and young players in the team. So it’s our job as experienced players to guide the young ones,” Ralani says.
“The team looks quite good for any challenges. Our pre-season went very well, playing against Chiefs, Pirates and Wits. It feels good because we did not only test ourselves against lower teams, but against the big teams out there. At least we were able to see how far we are from what we did in training.”
