Orlando Pirates coach Milutin Sredojevic has declared their readiness to come up against topflight returnees Highlands Park, whom they are well familiar with from last season.
Highlands stormed through the National First Division to emphatically win promotion with a record 69 points and 21 victories from 30 matches.
The Buccaneers will now face the test of being first on their Absa Premiership hit-list when the two sides clash at the Orlando Stadium on Saturday evening (20h15).
However, Sredojevic has since revealed that they are well acquainted with the Lions of the North, having regularly met each other in friendly fixtures last season.
The Serbian tactician, though admitting Highlands pose a different threat with their host of new signings, says Bucs will rely on their own quality, effort as well as “divine intervention” to start the new campaign off on a high.
“Regarding our respected opponents Highlands Park, coming back in such a convincing way through the NFD, their respected coaches Owen da Gama and Allan Freese and the team, I can tell you they had been our strategical partners last season,” revealed 'Micho'.
“In all the FIFA breaks, we played friendly matches and it was like an injection of motivation for us and for them. However, now things have changed with 12 new signings, our new players and we don’t know what will happen.
“I can only assure you that we are extremely motivated. We feel like fish that was in pre-season out of the water and competition is the water where we want to jump and be in, so it is a match we expect to be very, very tough.
“But we believe in the work we have done; we believe in the players we have and that will represent that work in the best possible way. And we believe that with effort, together with divine intervention will help us start in the best possible way.”
