Orlando Pirates have promoted academy midfielder Augustine Mahlonoko to the senior team ahead of the 2018/19 season.
The 16-year-old makes an early rise to the big league, having impressed during the club's 'Project X' campaign that saw an Under-21 team tour Brazil earlier this year.
Mahlonoko also picked up the club's Shield Development Player of the Year award at their prize-giving last month, as he joined the first team in pre-season.
He has since officially earned himself a permanent spot amongst the seasoned professionals, where he will be guided and further groomed by coaches Milutin Sredojevic and Rhulani Mokwena.
“I am thankful to all those who were involved in me getting promoted. This is a special moment for me and my family,” the teenager told Bucs' website.
"I have learnt a lot since being with the first team during pre-season but there’s a lot that I still need to learn, and I welcome that because it can only make me a better player.
"Though I am happy to be promoted, I will not let this get to my head because in all honestly, this is only the beginning. Those above me have shown faith in me by getting me promoted, I now need to prove myself.”
Mahlonoko follows in the footsteps of fellow academy graduates Siphumelele Mbulu, Yusuf Maart and Lyle Foster.
