Free State Stars sign 11 players, release 13 in squad overhaul

Free State Stars have confirmed a massive overhaul ahead of the 2018/19 season, having signed 11 players while releasing a total of 13.

Ea Lla Koto have been busy in the current transfer market, with coach Luc Eymael welcoming virtually an entire new team in Bethlehem.

Stars on Wednesday confirmed the signings of seven players from Absa Premiership rivals, three from the National First Division as well as one from outside of the country.

“We can confirm that we have made a number of signings and I hope they will add value to our team," Stars general manager Rantsi Mokoena told his club's website.

The new recruits include Eleazar Rodgers (Bidvest Wits), Tshepo Tema (Polokwane City), Mpho Maruping (Bloemfontein Celtic), Maboke Matlakala (Platinum Stars), Judas Moseamedi (Cape Town City), William Twala (Kaizer Chiefs) and Yusuf Jappie (Golden Arrows).

Others from the lower division include Ricardo Ndiki (Cape Town All Stars), Bongani Mbuli (Super Eagles) and Linda Bhengu (Mthatha Bucks), while Cesaire Gandze arrives from AC Leopards in DR Congo.

Meanwhile, the 13 players to have left are: Mohammed Anas, Thamsanqa Teyise, Sello Japhta, Mumuni Abubakar, Thabo Maphakisa, Mpho Mathekgane, Katlego Mashego, Nhlanhla VilakaziLangelihle Ndlovu, Mduduzi Khumalo, Dylan Peterson and Jared Abrahams.

Striker Siphelele Mthembu has already joined The Citizens on a free transfer, while defender Bathusi Aubaas will join TS Galaxy on loan for the season.

"And the players that have been released we wish them well in their future endeavours,” added Mokoena.
