Golden Arrows coach Clinton Larsen understands that Sherwin Naicker is eligible for Sunday's season-opener with Maritzburg United even though he is yet to renew his contract with the club.
Though still training under Larsen after only featuring in the MultiChoice Diski Challenge last term, the former Jomo Cosmos goalkeeper is currently without a deal.
"There hasn't been any problem. He is training. My office haven't told me that there is any problems," Larsen told KickOff.com.
"Like I said to you before, that department I leave to the office you know. All the players that are with me, from what I know are eligible to play on the weekend."
Pressed further on if it will be wise for the player to turn out for Abafana Bes'thende while he doesn't have a contrat, Larsen said: "Well, like I said, I haven't been told by management that I can't include him in my squad. So he is eligible to be selected in my opinion, ja."
Asked about the issue, club manager Nonceba Madlala referred this website back to Larsen.
"You can ask the coach. I can give you the coach's number, you can talk to the coach. Ja, no I can't answer that. That's up to the coach. He knows who has signed and who hasn't signed. So you have to speak to the coach," she said.
When contacted for comment, Naicker's agent Steve Kapeluschnik assured this website that a deal between the two parties was imminent.
"We've agreed in principle, just waiting to finalise the paperwork. I have just come back from Durban last night," he said.
