Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Brilliant Khuzwayo will have to wait a while longer before making his competitive debut for his new club.

Pirates have confirmed that Khuzwayo will miss the start of the 2018/19 season as he undergoes a surgical procedure on an ankle injury.

According to a club statement, the former Kaizer Chiefs shot-stopper could be out for up to four weeks in order to “remove screws in his ankle and to have a scope performed”.

Bucs have further assured that the 28-year-old’s procedure is merely precautionary, as they look to ensure he has a “pain-free season” once he returns to full fitness.

The Houghton-based outfit is set to face Highlands Park in their opening Absa Premiership encounter this Saturday (20h15), with Wayne Sandilands, Siyabonga Mpontshane and Jackson Mabokgwane set to battle for the starting berth.
