Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Brilliant Khuzwayo feels he has joined the Buccaneers at the right time, as they look to conquer both domestically and on the continent.

Khuzwayo left Amakhosi at the end of last season for Soweto rivals Pirates, who are looking to go one better than last term’s second-place finish in the Absa Premiership.

The Buccaneers will compete in the 2019 CAF Champions League, making a return for the first time since losing out to Egyptian giants Al Ahly in the 2013 final.

“I think this is the perfect time for me to be in this team. It’s a big institution. We want to conquer Africa, we want to get the second star. That is the priority,” Khuzwayo said.

“We also want to win the league. I believe with the quality players we have we have that chance. I am excited for the new challenges. I am here to learn and I believe it is the right time.”

Khuzwayo will be competing with Jackson Mabokgwane, Wayne Sandilands and Siyabonga Mpontshane for the number one spot.

“I will work hard so that I get an opportunity to play. No one has ever died over hard work.”

Khuzwayo was part of the team that went to Zambia for a pre-season camp and says it was a good way to prepare for the new campaign.

“I am familiar with travelling to Africa. It was more of a learning curve for players who have never been to Africa. It was a good and I can see the guys are working hard to continue where they left off last season.”
