Paris Saint-Germain's Thomas Tuchel on Edinson Cavani future amid Real Madrid transfer talk

Posted: 31 July 2018 Time: 09:30

Paris Saint-Germain head coach Thomas Tuchel has clarified the club's stance on striker Edinson Cavani after reports in Spain indicated he's been identified as the primary target for Real Madrid in their pursuit to replace Cristiano Ronaldo.

Cavani, 31, has forged a reputation as one of Europe's most clinical forwards since arriving in Italy with Palermo in 2007 from Uruguayan outfit Danubio.

Over the past 12 seasons for the Rosanero, Napoli and Paris Saint-Germain, the robust hitman has scored a staggering 311 goals in 501 games.

And these numbers have seen Los Blancos look towards his signature after being deterred in their chase for his teammates Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.

But Tuchel claims he's unaware of any concrete interest from the European champions, nor has he received any indication of Cavani wanting to leave the club - as initially suggested in Spanish media outlet AS.

"This is my feeling and I have not heard such a thing [that Cavani wants to leave]," the PSG boss told reporters during the ICC. "I spoke to him and he didn't mention anything.

"He said he is looking forward to joining us [in pre-season]. He is a key player for us."
