Cape Town City midfielder Surprise Ralani is itching to get his first taste of glory in the upcoming MTN8.
The 30-year-old made his PSL debut in January, after spending nine years playing his football for different clubs in Sweden. The Citizens snapped him up after he impressed coach Benni McCarthy, and he’s made a mark in a short space of time in the Mother City.
As he prepares for the new season, Ralani is hoping it comes with some early success in the MTN8. The Citizens take on Maritzburg United at Harry Gwala Stadium in the first round, a difficult place to go play.
City were beaten in the final on penalties by SuperSport United last year and want to go one better this time.
“It’s going to be massive [to win the MTN8], not only for me but the whole team because they felt how it is to lose in the final, and it was devastating for them because they wanted to win it at all costs,” the speedy winger says.
“But now we have a second chance, so it’s up to us to do the work on the field and try to lift the trophy. For me, personally, it would be great because I have only been here for about eight months, so it will be great to lift my first trophy at home.”
Before their MTN8 campaign begins, City will host SuperSport United in their first Absa Premiership match of the season at Cape Town Stadium on Saturday (18h00).
