Royal Eagles coach Roger Sikhakhane on Kagisho Dikgacoi appointment and new signings

Posted: 30 July 2018 Time: 15:00

Royal Eagles coach Roger Sikhakhane was reluctant to discuss why he roped in former Bafana Bafana midfielder Kagisho Dikgacoi to be his assistant coach.

Dikgacoi took on the job earlier this month, having retired from playing after a brief second stint with Golden Arrows in 2016/17.

The 33-year-old initially returned to Abafana Bes'thende from a seven-year spell in the United Kingdom where he turned out for Fulham, Crystal Palace and Cardiff City.

Dikgacoi was on the bench beside Sikhakhane during Eagles' 4-2 penalty shootout loss to Real Kings in the quarter-finals of the KZN Premier’s Cup at Princess Magogo Stadium on the weekend.

Asked his reasons for recruiting 'KG', Sikhakane said: "I’m the one who brought him.

“I brought him because I needed him. So you wouldn’t bring in someone who is not going to be useful to you.”

Sikhakhane also confirmed Eagles have signed Anthony Gordinho and Lungelo Dlamini on loan from Bidvest Wits and AmaZulu respectively, and added Bongani Chikila from EC Bees, and Lesvin Stoffels, Strydom Wambi, Khanyisa Mayo and Mpendulo Dlamini to their roster.

“Those you saw we have signed them,” he said.

Meanwhile, ex-SuperSport United playmaker Masibusane Zongo has been released for the second time by the National First Division club, having briefly returned after his exit at the end of last season.
