Amajimbos were denied a spot at the Africa U-17 Cup of Nations after suffering a 1-0 defeat to Angola at the COSAFA U-17 Championship on Sunday afternoon.

Angola went ahead after just five minutes with star forward Osvaldo Campemba netting his fifth goal of the tournament.

The South Africans had to wait until the 18th minute for an opening as Boitumelo Radiopane fired over the crossbar.

Amajimbos had a couple more efforts at goal, with Sphiwe Nkabinde and Boitumelo Radiopane firing over the crossbar from distance.

The South Africans pushed for a leveller before the break but they were unable to carve out a serious opening and went into the break trailing.

Molefi Ntseki's men continued to seek parity upon the resumption of the second half but the Angolans were well-drilled defensively.

The Angolans had a chance to double their lead with 70 minutes played as Rivaldo Cambuta sent a header wide, following a corner.

With time running out, Ntseki introduced the likes of Mohammed Shahabodien and Katleho TsoTsetsi as they pushed for a goal in the closing stages.

In the end, Amajimbos were unable to bypass the Angolan defence as the South Africans had to settle for a silver medal.
