Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane says goalkeeper Thela Ngobeni is not at the level of first choice shot-stopper Denis Onyango.
Onyango, a Ugandan international who is considered one of the best goalkeepers on the continent, has made the number one jersey at Chloorkop his own in the last few years at Sundowns, while Ngobeni has been sent out on loan to Free State Stars on multiple occasions.
Despite his brilliant performances for Ea Lla Koto during his loan spells, Ngobeni has never convinced Mosimane that he deserves a chance to play for Sundowns.
Ngobeni is currently back at Chloorkop following the end of a loan stint with Stars in June, but he could return to the club or get loaned out elsewhere before the transfer window ends.
At age 29, Ngobeni wants to get regular game-time and Sundowns will not offer that at this stage of his career.
“It’s a little bit difficult for Thela and he might not be happy with what I am saying, to say that I don’t think he is at the level of Denis, that’s my opinion. Denis is the number one in Africa, let’s be honest,” Mosimane says.
“Kennedy [Mweene] is the number one in Zambia and he is the captain. Also Thela is a little bit short and you saw what happened in Horoya [in the Champions League]. They’ve got big boys. You’ve got to come out and catch the ball.”
