Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane stresses the importance of victory against AS Togo-Port tonight

Posted: 27 July 2018 Time: 15:00

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane is not a fan of having to rely on others for favours, so he’s urged his players to get a win tonight to keep their CAF Champions League campaign alive.

Sundowns are yet to register a victory in Group C, but they have a good opportunity to get three points for the first time when they host AS Togo-Port at Lucas Moripe Stadium at 21h00.

They are bottom of the group on two points after three matches, following their draws against defending champions Wydad Casablanca and Horoya, and their defeat last week to Togo-Port in Lome.

Wydad, who are top of the group on five points, host second-placed Horoya in Casablanca tomorrow night. Horoya, Sundowns’ next opponents after tonight’s match, are also on five points.

“It’s a must-win, nothing else. Lose or go home, that’s it. Otherwise you will be hoping that this one loses to this one, which means it’s no longer in our hands,” Mosimane says.

“It’s in our hands. We can move to five points and you will never know what happens in Casa. Not many people come back from Casa, so we are hoping Casa wins and then we are second on the log and we can sort it out with Horoya here [at home].”

Sundowns usually know how to handle pressure situations and Mosimane is hoping they can get the job done again tonight.

“We wait for that. Even when we won the league, there was a time we were eight points clear. But we then wait for Pirates to be three points behind us and then we start saying ‘hey, these guys are already here’. I hope that does not happen.”
