Brockie hoping for Togo-Port chance

Mamelodi Sundowns striker Jeremy Brockie hopes he did well enough in the Shell Helix Cup last weekend to get an opportunity in tonight’s CAF Champions League Group C match against AS Togo-Port.

Brockie opened the scoring against Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium as Sundowns went on to win 2-1, and is itching for another opportunity so that he can finally find the back of the net in an official game for the 2016 African champions.

“It’s been a long time coming and now people can stop asking when the first goal is going to come and we can move on. Hopefully that’s the start of a good season ahead,” Brockie said.

“I hope I did enough on the weekend to cement my place in the line-up for Friday and then it’s about keeping yourself in the line-up. If I get an opportunity on Friday, now that the first one has hit the back of the net, they will start coming.”

Brockie bagged 10 goals for SuperSport United in the Confederation Cup. He says playing on the continent sometimes means you have to play a different style of football to adapt to varying conditions.

“When you play on the continent, sometimes you have to move away from your normal style and adjust to what’s put in front of you. We played on an astro turf pitch in Togo and sometimes the bounce of the ball will be different compared to grass.

“For me as an attacking player it’s just about positioning yourself in the box and making sure you take the opportunities when they come.”
