Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Wiseman Meyiwa has set his sights on earning a move abroad following his rise at club and international level.
Meyiwa made his breakthrough into the professional ranks after being promoted to the Amakhosi senior team at the start of last season, as he went on to make 19 appearances.
Still just 18-years-old, the diminutive central midfielder has shown consistent growth having graduated through the national team ranks from Under-17 level through to Bafana Bafana.
Meyiwa has also featured at two Africa Cup of Nations and two FIFA World Cups with the U-17 and U-20 sides thus far, and is set to take part in his third continental tournament with Amajita next year.
After seeing off Malawi in their final round of qualifying fixtures last weekend, the teenager, who will be turning 19 in December, is delighted to be in line to feature in five consecutive major international tournaments.
“It feels great, really. I always set a high standard for myself. It’s nice to see most of my dreams come to pass,” Meyiwa told SAFA.net of the team’s qualification.
“As a kid, I’d always wish to see myself playing in three major football tournaments such as the FIFA World Cups and the AFCON tournaments. All of that is now manifesting. And that is why I work so hard."
Meyiwa is adamant on furthering his growth, and has outlined his desire to continue improving on an individual level in order to attract interest from Europe.
“My dream is to now see myself earning a move abroad. I’m quite aware that it’s not going to be easy; however, it’s possible. It can be done," he added.
"I always want to do better and achieve more, and that’s why I even took time to put an extra shift in this past off-season to work on other aspects of my game.
“I’m always looking for ways to improve as a player. I want to go and play abroad. That’s my ultimate dream.
"I once had a casual chat with some football agents and they advised me that the only way to crack it into European football is to be a player who can both attack, defend and score goals at the same time. That’s the level I’m gunning for at the moment.”
