Lebese has no time to sulk

Mamelodi Sundowns winger George Lebese says he can’t sulk about not getting regular game-time, as he focuses on working his way back into the team.

The former Kaizer Chiefs player, who made 15 appearances in all competitions last term, has described his first campaign with the club as “a learning season” and says he cannot make any excuses in the coming one.

After joining Sundowns from Amakhosi, Lebese struggled to hold down a regular place in the team and found himself gaining weight at one point.

He was told to lose the weight and has since shed six kilograms in an effort to get back into Pitso Mosimane's team.

He’s raring to go ahead of the new campaign, but has to fight for a place on the left side of midfield with the likes of Aubrey Ngoma, new man Lyle Lakay, Gaston Sirino and Themba Zwane, who can play in that position too.

“I think I am ready. I’m fit, I’ve lost weight and I am waiting for my chance.  I just have to have time to understand what the coach requires from me, so it was a learning season for me and no excuses in this one. I know what the coach wants, I am just waiting for my chance,” he said after a training session at Chloorkop on Wednesday afternoon.

“I speak to him regularly. I need feedback to know what I must improve on. I have never worked this hard in my entire career. Competition is good for the team. I can’t sulk, I just have to work hard.”

Lebese, who came on as a substitute in the Shell Helix Cup against his former side last weekend, will be hoping to get an opportunity when Sundowns take on Togolese outfit AS Togo-Port in a CAF Champions League Group C match at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Friday (21h00).
