Cape Town City have bolstered their goalkeeping department with the acquisition of Peter Leeuwenburgh from Dutch club Ajax Amsterdam.

Leeuwenburgh has been welcomed by the club while on their pre-season camp in Johannesburg, following his arrival from the Netherlands.

The 24-year-old shot-stopper is a product of the Ajax youth academy in Amsterdam, which he joined in 2010, and spent most of his time with the reserve team.

A former junior international, Leeuwenburg was the second-choice goalkeeper when the Dutch Under-17 national team won the EURO U-17 tournament in 2011.

He comes in as a replacement for the departed Shu-Aib Walters, and will now fight for a place in coach Benni McCarthy's side alongside current number one Sage Stephens and Samora Motlaung.
