Mamelodi Sundowns striker Jeremy Brockie wants to play a key role in the club’s CAF Champions League journey, just as he did for SuperSport United in the Confederation Cup last year.
Brockie netted 10 times on Matsatsantsa’s way to the Confederation Cup final, where they were beaten by DRC giants TP Mazembe.
Brockie was an unused substitute in Sundowns’ Group C defeat to West African side AS Togo-Port last weekend, but after finding the back of the net in his side’s 2-0 victory over Kaizer Chiefs in the Shell Helix Cup over the weekend, the New Zealander could get an opportunity to shine when they take on the same side at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Friday (21h00).
“I had a taste of Africa with SuperSport last year and that’s another one of the reasons why I joined Sundowns, because it’s another opportunity to challenge myself against the best players and clubs around the continent,” Brockie told KickOff.com.
“I have not participated in the group games so far, but hopefully I can get some game-time and make a name for myself in Africa, as well as South Africa.”
Sundowns are bottom of the group on two points after three matches and go into Friday’s match needing to win at all costs. The hosts need to not only dominate the game, but make sure that they come away with the victory which will finally get their group stage campaign going.
