Anele Ngcongca believes Mamelodi Sundowns still have a chance in the CAF Champions League

Posted: 24 July 2018 Time: 11:00

Mamelodi Sundowns right-back Anele Ngcongca says their CAF Champions League pool is still wide open, as they prepare to take on AS Togo-Port in Tshwane this Friday.

Sundowns dropped to the bottom of Group C after a 1-0 defeat to the Togolese outfit in Lome last Tuesday, their first loss in this year’s round robin phase.

Pitso Mosimane’s men are without a victory in three matches and cannot afford anything less than a win when they take on Togo-Port on Friday (21h00).

Defending champions Wydad Casablanca are on five points along with second-placed Horoya, while Togo-Port are in third place on four points. Sundowns are on two points.

“The group is still open and there’s three games left, which we have to win. They are must-win games. We have a game on Friday and we have to prepare ourselves,” the 30-year-old.

“We have to put the ball in the back of the net, which we didn’t do [last Tuesday]. I am sure they will come to South Africa aware of our pace. Hopefully we will have our scoring boots on Friday.”

Togo-Port are used to playing afternoon matches in the heat of Togo, but they will have to deal with cold weather on Friday. Ngcongca says they need to use that to their advantage.

“We’ve got to use it. We played against them at 1pm [Togo time] and now we have to use that advantage that we are playing at night.”
