Veteran goalkeeper Moeneeb Josephs says what Brilliant Khuzwayo went through at Kaizer Chiefs is part of football but he now has the chance to show that he is a top talent at Orlando Pirates.

Khuzwayo, 28, spent six years as an understudy to Bafana Bafana number one Itumeleng Khune at Chiefs, only playing 37 games for the Glamour Boys.

The Pirates academy product therefore rejected the offer of a new deal at Naturena in favour of returning to Bucs in the off-season.

Khuzwayo, however, also faces stern competition for game-time at Mayfair from experienced keepers Siyabonga Mpontshane, Wayne Sandilands and Jackson Mabokgwane.

“That’s football, you know football is like that,” Josephs tells KickOff.com in relation to Khuzwayo's struggles at Amakhosi.

“He [Khuzwayo] has moved to a brighter thing now. He has moved to Orlando Pirates and it is time for him to prove and show himself.

“There’s no doubt that Briliant is a top goalkeeper.

“What happened at Kaizer Chiefs is normal. It happens at every team. If you have a quality first-choice keeper you are going to struggle to get in there ... it was just unfortunate.

“Now he’s got the break. He has gone to Orlando Pirates and it is time to show that class that everybody has been speaking about,” says Josephs, whose Bafana prospects were also limited by Khune's dominance.

The 38-year-old, who won the 'double treble' with Pirates from 2010 to 2012, has advised Khuzwayo to play for the badge at the Sea Robbers.

“Play for the brand, play for the brand and the supporters ... that is all you need to be playing for.

“Because that at the end of the day is more important than anything, than you playing for yourself.

“Because you are going to try to prove a point to yourself, it’s impossible,” concludes Josephs, who swapped Bidvest Wits for AmaZulu in the off-season.
