New Bloemfontein Celtic coach Steve Komphela has quelled suggestions Lorenzo Gordinho may be pushing for a return to parent club Kaizer Chiefs.

When Komphela was still in charge of Chiefs the Soweto giants loaned Gordinho in January to Celtic as part of the deal to bring midfielder Kabelo Mahlasela to Naturena.

The 24-year-old Gordinho was one of Amakhosi's best performers in 2016/17, but only played seven games in the first half of last term before being dispatched to Phunya Sele Sele for the year.

Komphela insists all is well with the defender.

“He’s training very well, he’s going through his pre-season nicely,” said Komphela.

“I worked with Lorenzo at Chiefs, I worked with [Lucky] Baloyi at Chiefs and whole lot of others. Some of those players know each other from the corridors and they are enjoying themselves.

“We are just waiting for the season to open and see how far [we are in terms of fitness], because you can prepare but the level of fitness will be seen in your first match.”

Gordinho has played 16 games for Celtic, scoring once and getting sent off in a 2-1 defeat to Orlando Pirates in April at Orlando Stadium.
