Maritzburg United invite ex-Kaizer Chiefs defender Tsepo Masilela for a trial

Posted: 23 July 2018 Time: 10:40 has learnt that Maritzburg United are set to welcome former Kaizer Chiefs defender Tsepo Masilela for an assessment.

Masilela, who is a free agent after his contract expired at Amakhosi in June, was spotted amongst United's players during friendly games against SuperSport United and Mamelodi Sundowns at Lucas Moripe Stadium over the past weekend.

The ex-Bafana Bafana left-back watched both matches on the sidelines but is expected to join Maritzburg's pre-season camp in Tshwane this week, which will move to Potchefstroom on the weekend.

According to a source close to United, the club wants to first look at Masilela at training before deciding whether to sign him. The Team of Choice did the same thing before recently recruiting his former Chiefs teammate Keagan Buchanan.

"Tsepo has had a discussion with Maritzburg United. The club is keen on looking at him," says the source.

"He is expected to start training with the club this week."

Maritzburg, whose midfielder Lebohang Maboe is in the sights of Sundowns, have signed Buchanan, Nazeer Allie, Denwin Farmer, Sizwe Muthwa and Tholang Masegela ahead of 2018/19.
