University Sport South Africa (USSA) were crowned 2018 SAB League U-21 national champions after beating Mpumalanga 2-1 in the final played at King Zwelithini Stadium on Sunday.
USSA, who finished runners-up last year, claimed their third title and walked away with R20 000 prize money, while Mpumalanga went home with R10 000 for being runners-up. The tournament had been running for a week in KwaZulu-Natal and the two sides fought hard to get to the final.
Mpumalanga were unbeaten in Group A and finished top of the standings, as they booked themselves a semi-final spot against Limpopo.
USSA were top of Group B and faced Gauteng in the other semi-final. It was sweet revenge for USSA who lost to Gauteng in the final last year.
In the final, USSA drew first blood through the tournament’s top goal scorer, Thabang Chuene. They increased their lead when Kavendre Makhene found the back of the net 13 minutes later.
