Sundowns were crowned champions of the inaugural Shell Helix Ultra Cup on Saturday after walking away 2-1 winners over Kaizer Chiefs at the FNB Stadium.

Following a dull first half, the encounter sprung to life early in the second half thanks to goals from Jeremy Brockie and Themba Zwane in added time, whilst Bernard Parker netted the consolation for Chiefs.

“I’m very impressed with the discipline and tactical organization. I’m happy for the guys who haven’t played to take the opportunity especially Anthony Laffor, an important player. He looked revived," Mosimane told SABC.

“But I’m happy for our youngster Siphelele ‘Pitso’ Mkhuluse who comes from our development academy. In the starting line-up, he wasn’t afraid. But all in all, you cannot be fooled.

“This is a pre-season cup. This doesn’t mean anything, we need to go back to catch a rhythm and I’m very happy to give the other guys a chance to play.

“I mean we dropped nine players from the team that played in Togo. So the guys took the opportunity. I’m also happy for Lyle Lakay coming in at left back, showing good signs, you know.

“Kennedy Mweene was brilliant in goal. Disappointed with the goal, should’ve been 2-0. Lack of concentration, but all in all it’s good that everybody got a run. This cup means nothing there are important cups to come,” Mosimane said after the game.

Brockie registered his first goal for the club and Mosimane is delighted to see him off the mark after his initial struggles.

“It’s unbelievable. We brought him here to score goals and I just told him to keep going, you’ll break the ice and he broke the ice, I’m so happy for him.

“But again it’s pre-season, it doesn’t mean anything. It means nothing this cup,” he concluded.
