Posted: 21 July 2018 Time: 08:00

Happy Jele wants to be remembered as someone who inspired Orlando Pirates to success in major competitions.

Jele was honoured with the chairman’s accolade during the side’s end-of-season awards in Sunninghill, Johannesburg on Thursday evening. He has served the Buccaneers for 12 years, making over 250 appearances in that time. He was a key figure during the side’s double treble winning campaigns.

Last season Jele missed almost the entire first half of the season due to injury, but recovered in the second half to lead the Buccaneers to a second place finish in the Absa Premiership and CAF Champions League qualification.

After receiving the award from Irvin Khoza, Jele expressed his delight and spoke of how he wants to be remembered after he retires.

“All I can is that this is a special award for me. It comes from the chairman and it just takes me back to all the things that have happened in my life. There’s been rough days, there’s been good days,” Jele tells KickOff.com.

“When I started playing for Orlando Pirates, I did not know that I would be where I am today. But through God and the guidance from the Pirates family and my manager, I have managed to get here. This award is for everyone who has pushed me to be successful every day.

“I want to contribute more trophies to Pirates. One day when I retire, I can be remembered with the trophies the we put in the cabinet. We have to work hard so that we can deliver for the team.”
