Golden Arrows left-back Zolani Nkombelo faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines with a broken foot.
The 24-year-old sustained the blow in training, leaving the club short of options in that position following the off-season departure of current Bidvest Wits trialist Lehlohonolo Nonyane.
Arrows are consequently assessing Zimbabwean left-back Divine Lunga, according to a source at the club.
"He [Nkombelo] will be out for a few months," says coach Clinton Larsen.
"But we are looking and we are very close to signing a foreign left-back, very close," adds the former Bloemfontein Celtic mentor.
Nkombelo, a Kaizer Chiefs academy product, scored once in 24 league appearances last season to help Abafana Bes'thende secure a second straight top-eight finish in the Absa Premiership.
Arrows had their share of injury woes in 2017/18, as Zimbabwean midfielder Danny Phiri missed much of the campaign with a ruptured ACL, while winger Andile Fikizolo broke a foot.
