Kaizer Chiefs defender Siyabonga Ngezana is wary of the changes ahead of the new season, but is ready to fight for his position in the team.
Ngezana enjoyed a breakthrough season in 2017/18 after being given an opportunity by former coach Steve Komphela, making a name for himself and becoming a regular feature in the starting line-up.
However, with new coach Giovanni Solinas having since come in, he is aware that his contribution last season won't count for much and he will therefore need to prove himself once more.
"For me, it's not going to be easy because there are some new changes this season, with new players and a new coach," said Ngezana.
"So, what happened last season won't be the same. I think for us, as players, it's going to be a good season for us because of the changes.
"I still need to work hard to cement my position, even though the changes have only been made offensively. I need to fine-tune my abilities in order to cement my position."
A more defensive formation allowed the 20-year-old to fit into a three-man central defence as he made a total of 18 appearances.
Since Solinas's first training session on Monday it became apparent to Ngezana that the Italian tactician seems to be favouring a 4-4-2 or 4-5-1 formation, which he has welcomed as a challenge that will bring out the best in the whole team.
"I think with the new formation, it's good for us as players because it's more challenging to play two centre-backs," he added.
"It's a good challenge for us as players, so that we can always be on our toes. And, also, where there's no pressure there's no diamonds.
"The pressure is there, so that's what's going to keep me pushing hard."
