'Solinas will bring new philosophy'

Kaizer Chiefs defender Daniel Cardoso has given insight into Giovanni Solinas’s first few days as Amakhosi coach.
Solinas was confirmed as the new Amakhosi mentor last Friday, after months of speculation following Steve Komphela’s exit in April.
Solinas was in Klerksdorp for the Maize Cup last weekend, but Patrick Mabedi was in charge of the team. Solinas, however, will be on the bench when Chiefs take on Mamelodi Sundowns in the Shell Helix Cup at FNB Stadium on Saturday.
Solinas has signed a two-year deal with Amakhosi, with an option to extend for another year.
“He started with us on Monday and what he has [done] so far is work on the basics, like teaching us on how to position ourselves and obviously focusing on the tactical and technical side of things,” Cardoso tells KickOff.com.
“Obviously this weekend [against Sundowns] will be his first big test and he can see where we are after three weeks of pre-season.
“I think he will bring in a different philosophy. We adapted to Steve’s philosophy and it didn’t really work, so hopefully he can bring in a new philosophy. He’s coming from a different country, so I am sure that he is going to bring in his own tactics. He will bring in new ideas.”
Solinas, a former Free State Stars coach, is an Italian. With his nation renowned for solid defending, expect to see Amakhosi being tight at the back, just as they were last season.
