Mamelodi Sundowns right-back Anele Ngcongca says they let themselves down in their 1-0 defeat to AS Togo-Port in the CAF Champions League on Tuesday.
It was Togo-Port’s first victory in Group C, as Sundowns dropped to the bottom of the standings with just two points from their three matches. Ayi Hunlede got the goal that sealed the victory for the West Africans and it will certainly give them confidence going forward.
Sundowns, meanwhile, have to dust themselves off and work on getting the required points to get to the knockout phase of the competition. The good thing for Pitso Mosimane’s men is that two of their three remaining matches will be played at home, so they need to take advantage of that or face being eliminated.
“We’ve let ourselves down by not winning. It was a game that we could have wrapped up in the first half. As you know football is a funny sport, if you don’t take your chances you get punished,” Ngcongca said.
“We had an opportunity to study them. We did our homework and everything that came out at training came out in the match.”
Sundowns will play Togo-Port next Friday, a game they cannot afford to lose.
“There’s nothing less than a victory that we need. We have to have our scoring boots on.”
In the other Group C game, Horoya and defending champions Wydad Casablanca played to a 1-1 draw.
