Mamelodi Sundowns striker Jeremy Brockie is happy that he had a pre-season with the club, after joining the Absa Premiership champions halfway through the last campaign.
Brockie joined Sundowns at a time they were fighting for the league title and their CAF Champions League campaign was just a couple of months from getting underway.
The former SuperSport United forward struggled to gel with his teammates and found himself getting little game-time towards the end of the season, as coach Pitso Mosimane went for his tried and tested players in attack.
Now that the season is just weeks from commencing, Brockie is determined to raise his hand for selection. He is yet to find the back of the net since joining the former African champions.
He did not get a chance to feature in Sundowns’ 1-0 defeat to AS Togo-Port in a Champions League Group C match in Lome on Tuesday.
“It’s always difficult coming halfway through the season, especially when you come to a team that’s top of the table and already has the combinations and stuff like that set. So I guess the pre-season has given me an opportunity to try make an impact and put my name in the coach’s thoughts when it comes to selecting the first 11,” Brockie tells KickOff.com.
“I’ve really worked hard in the last couple of weels. I am in good shape, feeling fit and I am ready to take my opportunity and make an impact on the club this season. I’ve been scoring goals in training, so the confidence is high. There’s a lot of attacking talent in this team, so I just have to wait for that opportunity.”
Brockie could not play in Sundowns’ friendly match against Township Rollers in Gaborone recently because he was unable to get a visa.
