According to a source at United, Maymbela will continue to lead the side instead of Nigerian defender James Okwuosa, who did the job last season but is reportedly on his way out of the Chilli Boys.

New signing Thabo Nthethe has been tipped for the vice-captaincy at the Port Elizabeth-based outfit.

"Mark Mayambela has been with the club for a long time," says an official at United.

"He understands the culture of the club and the youngsters look up to him."

"The club is set to announce a new captain next week and Mayambela is the right candidate for the position."
