Township Rollers coach Nikola Kavazovic says they are going into the unknown in Alexandria

Posted: 17 July 2018 Time: 08:28

As Township Rollers prepare to take on Africa’s most successful club Al Ahly, coach Nikola Kavazovic says the eight-time CAF Champions League winners are a closed book to him.

Rollers visit the Egyptian giants in Alexandria at Borg El Arab Stadium tonight (21h00), looking to get their second victory in Group A.

Rollers’ only victory in the group was secured against Uganda's KCCA. They are second in the group, determined to reach the knockout phase for the first time in their history.

Ahly, meanwhile, are bottom of the group on just one point and will no doubt be looking to boss the game so that they register their first victory in the round robin phase.

Kavazovic, who was linked with the Kaizer Chiefs coaching job before Giovanni Solinas was confirmed as the new man in Amakhosi’s hotseat last week, says he was unable to get the latest footage of Ahly’s matches.

“So far in the Champions League, we have analysed our opponents through video analysis to the smallest details. For the first time we are going into the unknown; this is first time that any fresh DVD was not provided so we could analyse the opponent,” Kavazovic told Rollers' website.

“We don’t know anything about them. Some of their players played at the World Cup. If we beat Mamelodi Sundowns [1-0 on Saturday, having lost 3-0 in a previous friendly], that means that we are on top level for this stage of pre-season. But if you don’t have information about your opponent, all you can do is to play your game and to wait how much they will let you play.

“We will try to be balanced in all moments of game. For sure, we will not defend 90 minutes, but also we don’t have the intention to attack them like we going to do in Gaborone.”
