Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane knows what to expect against AS Togo-Port

Posted: 17 July 2018 Time: 08:00

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane is aware that they cannot afford to slip up in their next two CAF Champions League group stage matches against AS Togo-Port.

Sundowns visit Togo-Port at Stade General Eyadema on Tuesday (15h00), looking to register their first victory in Group C. The 2016 champions are in third place after two matches, following their stalemates against Wydad Casablanca and Horoya.

Sundowns will then host the Togolese outfit on July 27. Getting six points against the West Africans will boost Sundowns’ chances of reaching the knockout phase for a third consecutive year.

Mosimane goes into the game knowing what to expect from the opponents, having done his homework.

“They are important games, they determine our qualification out of the group. They are big boys, typical West African. They are a duplicate of Horoya. They’ve got power, that’s what you get from West African boys. We must be very careful from set-pieces,” the former Bafana Bafana mentor tells KickOff.com.

After a few years of not having a rest during the off-season, Sundowns' players got some time off after their first two group matches. They are well rested, but Mosimane is a little worried that they may not be ready for today’s encounter.

“We appreciate the break. It obviously compromised the training because we’ve had about 20 days [of pre-season]. We never have a full pre-season, but it’s better than the last five years. We are not ready, but you have to do what you have to do and give the guys a break because there’s two Champions League programmes in one season.”

Bafana midfielder Andile Jali could make his debut for Sundowns today, while Gaston Sirino is out serving suspension.
