Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Willard Katsande has welcomed the appointment of new coach Giovanni Solinas, whose philosophy he feels will complement the players on hand.
Following months of speculation and unease from supporters, Chiefs unsuspectingly unveiled Solinas as their permanent replacement to Steve Komphela last Friday.
The Italian tactician built up a profile during his first spell at Free State Stars in 2015/16, when he led the club to 12th place and a Nedbank Cup semi-final spot.
While many would have forgotten his contribution due to a dismal record in his second spell in 2016/17, Katsande has fond memories of Solinas’s coaching style and believes he could well bring back the type of exciting football the Glamour Boys are known for.
“I think it was a good decision [to bring in Solinas]. Judging from a distance, he’s somebody who I’ve admired – the way he was coaching at Free State Stars,” Katsande said.
“I think he’s got something and he’s going to add value in the team, and everybody is eager to start working with him to see how far we can go.
“His team always had discipline, balance and they played exciting football. As you can see, we have that quality of knocking the ball around and I think he has that philosophy.
“I think [his appointment] is good for the team, it’s good for the supporters and good for everyone.”
