Luka Modric awarded Golden Ball, Harry Kane picks up Golden Shoe after 2018 FIFA World Cup showing

Luka Modric picked up the Golden Ball after Croatia finished as runners-up at the 2018 FIFA World Cup, while England captain Harry Kane walked away with the Golden Boot.

Croatia's inspirational captain Modric fell short of delivering the coveted World Cup title, in what would have been a fairytale story but received the Golden Ball for being the player of the tournament.

"He played a terrific tournament which is another commendation for the team which helped to bring about Luka's success," coach Zlatko Dalic said in the official FIFA Press conference.

"He did the lion share of our play and he was a deserved winner of the Golden Ball."

Belgium midfielder Eden Hazard was the second-best player, with World Cup-winning France forward Antoine Griezmann finishing third.

His French team-mate Kylian Mbappe won the Young Player Award for his blistering performances, notching four goals at Russia 2018.

Belgium's Thibaut Courtois was awarded the Golden Glove for being the leading goalkeeper.
