Amajita and Malawi played to a 0-0 draw in their first leg Africa U-20 Cup of Nations qualifier on Sunday afternoon.
Lyle Foster went close to putting the hosts ahead after just six minutes, but he directed his header over the crossbar following a set-piece.
Thabo Senong's charges enjoyed most of the possession in the first half and managed to carve out a couple more chances, with Foster and Siphesihle Mkhize going close.
The visitors carved out their first opening after 33 minutes as Andrew Malisero's effort from close range sailed just wide of Khulekani Kubheka's upright.
However, that proved to be the final clear-cut opening of the half as the sides went into the break deadlocked at 0-0.
The South Africans came out firing in the second half and nearly went ahead in the opening six minutes as Kobamelo Kodisang saw his header saved.
Both nations opted for changes midway through the second half as Khanyisile Mayo and Nkosingiphile Ngcobo were introduced for the hosts.
Ngcobo went close to making the perfect impact for the hosts but his free-kick from the edge of the box sailed just wide with 10 minutes remaining.
Senong's last throw of the dice saw Malebogo Modise replace Mkhuma for the final six minutes of the half.
In the end, Amajita failed to bypass the Malawian defence as the encounter ended goalless.
