Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane says he can use Lyle Lakay in three different positions.
Lakay has completed a move to Sundowns from Cape Town City on a three-year deal and is likely to play at left-back, though Mosimane says he can play him in other positions.
Mosimane values versatile players. The likes of Thapelo Morena, Asavela Mbekile, Mzikayise Mashaba, Themba Zwane and Sibusiso Vilakazi have played in different positions under Mosimane and it won’t be any different with new man Lakay.
Lakay will compete with Zwane, Gaston Sirino, Aubrey Ngoma and George Lebese at left wing, and Tebogo Langerman and Siyabonga Zulu at left-back.
“I believe we can use him in three positions. I just don’t like players who play one position. You must play two positions,” Mosimane tells KickOff.com.
“He can play left-back, he can play left wing and also if we play a three-man midfield he can play on the left side of the midfield. He has a very good work rate and he has the speed that we want, especially for left-back.”
Mosimane continues: “It’s part of the agreement and he knows. It’s like Thapelo Morena, we brought him as a winger. They fit the model of fullbacks and that’s how we play. That’s the way it is.”
