Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Nhlanhla Kubheka believes the best is still to come from Daniel Cardoso.
Cardoso was one of Amakhosi’s top performers last season, playing a key role as the Soweto giants only conceded 22 goals in 30 Absa Premiership matches.
The ex-Free State Stars defender played 37 matches in all competitions, which is 19 more than he managed in 2016/17, and 33 more than in the campaign before.
He was a key component in former coach Steve Komphela’s system of three central defenders and two wingbacks.
“I’ve always been a fan of Cardoso from when he was playing for Free State Stars. He did well last season, coming from a season where he was not playing much before that,” Kubheka says.
“I think you can tell that he has a strong mentality and he has done very well. There’s potential for him to do more and it’s a chance for him to show us more of what he can do.
“We have not seen the best from him, but we should give him a chance because the best is still to come. He is a hard worker, he is committed to his job and he is a great talent. If he continues to grow, I think he will become the best defender Chiefs has ever had.”
Cardoso will no doubt be one of Amakhosi's most important players in the coming season, as they look to end their three-year trophy drought.
