Maritzburg United recruit Keagan Buchanan is excited at the prospect of joining forces with Lebogang Maboe, Fortune Makaringe and Siphesihle Ndlovu in midfield.

Buchanan was on Wednesday confirmed as the Team of Choice’s first signing for the 2018/19 season, after penning a two-year deal with an option of a further year.

The 27-year-old barely featured at his former club Kaizer Chiefs, with ex-Amakhosi coach Steve Komphela having opted for limited variation in his midfield setup.

With the belief that Maritzburg’s style of play under coach Fadlu Davids is a better fit for Buchanan, he is confident he can settle right in.

The former junior international is also relishing the opportunity to combine with Nedbank Cup star Maboe and the PSL's Young Player and Midfielder of the Season Ndlovu, while not discrediting the contribution of Makaringe last season.

“I think the likes of Lebo, Fortune and Siphesihle – in my opinion – were amongst the top five players in the league last season,” Buchanan tells

“It’s good to know that there is quality like that in the team that will keep everyone on their toes, but I wouldn’t look at it as a challenge for all of us.

“Instead, I think it forms a good platform for us to help one another grow, because ultimately we are here to all help one another improve on different aspects of the game.

“So, the prospect of being able to play alongside them in the midfield is exciting, and I’m really looking forward to it.”
