Thierry Henry 'part of the enemy' claims coach Didier Deschamps ahead of Belgium World Cup semi-final

Posted: 10 July 2018 Time: 13:00

Thierry Henry has been labelled an 'enemy' of France ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup semi-final with Belgium at the Krestovsky Stadium tonight.

Henry, 40, the all-time record goalscorer for the France national team and a 1998 World Cup winner will be on the bench for their opposition tonight.

Currently the assistant coach to Roberto Martinez, it will be a unique moment for the Les Blues icon.

However, manager Didier Deschamps has warned there's no time for sentiment.

"When you go to a club abroad and play against one from your own country, you are part of the enemy," said the France manager in the official FIFA press conference.

"This time, in an international match, it is much higher. He is facing his home nation. From the time he became an assistant to Roberto Martinez [Belgium manager], he did know that can happen.

"It is a difficult situation – bizarre – it is not easy for him."
