Kaizer Chiefs quartet select World Cup favourites ahead of semi-finals

Posted: 10 July 2018 Time: 14:00

Kaizer Chiefs quartet Daniel Cardoso, Bernard Parker, Ryan Moon and George Maluleka have selected their favourites for the coveted FIFA World Cup crown.

With just four teams remaining in the competition, Cardoso, Parker, Moon and Maluleka have put their heads on the block in predicting who will go all the way.

England, Belgium, France and Croatia are the only remaining nations out of the 32 that qualified for the finals in Russia, with the two semi-finals set to be played on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Croatia are seemingly the underdogs, with none of the Chiefs stars backing the likes of Luka Modric and Ivan Rakitic.

Cardoso, who is of Portuguese ancestory, has backed Les Bleus to go past Belgium and beat England in the final.

"France disappointed in the group stage, but they have come to the party in the knockout stages. They will beat Belgium and face England in the final, and France will win the World Cup," the 29-year-old defender told his club's website.

Parker initially backed The Red Devils to be a surprise package in Russia and says they have already exceeded his expectations, but believes they can still go on to their first ever World Cup triumph.

"They have done so [well] even more than I thought and, if they beat France [in the semi-final], they will win the World Cup,” 'Hond' added.

Moon has thrown his weight behind the Three Lions, who are being tipped to clinch only the second world title in their history, with their catch slogan 'It's coming home' having gained prominence in recent weeks.

"England will win the World Cup,” Moon boldy stated.

Finally, Maluleka joins Parker in Belgium's corner, backing them to overcome Gareth Southgate's outfit in the final come Saturday.

"They will play against England in the final and Belgium will win,” said the midfielder.

Meanwhile, the quartet have also picked their favourites for the coveted 'Golden Ball' - a.k.a. Player of the Tournament – with Maluleka going for Eden Hazard, while Parker feels Kevin De Bruyne deserves the gong.

Moon tipped Raheem Sterling to shine but the England attacker hasn't been able to do so, and he thus feels Kylian Mbappe, Modric and John Stones are in with a shout.

Cardoso also initially favoured Paul Pogba, who has yet to stamp his mark on the French squad, unlike Antoine Griezmann and Mbappe.
