Surprise Ralani’s former coach Farouk Khan believes the forward can have a "Neymar effect" for Cape Town City in the coming season.

Ralani joined the Citizens in January after spending eight years in Sweden, where he played for Helsingborgs (two spells), IFK Hassleholm, Landskrona and Lyngby BK.

By joining City, Ralani got to play in the PSL for the first time in his career and the 30-year-old did not take long to adjust to life in local football, performing well for the Citizens who finished in the top eight for a second consecutive season.

He made 15 appearances in all competitions, with one goal and three assists.

“When he came to me, the boy was so weak physically. He had all the skill in the world, but physically he was like a 12 or 13-year-old. I told him to pick up weights and he would say ‘coach I feel like my chest is breaking’ and he only did one day of bench pressing. He could not handle it, but after six months he started getting stronger,” Khan says.

“What a talent he is. He is a well developed player; he is technically aware and tactically sound. He has matured because of his age, so when he went to City the only thing was that he is not as young as the other players.

“But what he’s proven to the technical team is that when you put him in he gives you something different. He’s got pace, skill, great vision and he is a player who is able to create something from nothing. He is that type of player that can give you that Neymar effect. There’s more to come from him.”
