Bobby Motaung makes no bones over Patrick Mabedi's Kaizer Chiefs coaching prospects

Kaizer Chiefs football manager Bobby Motaung says there is no chance that Patrick Mabedi will become the next head coach of the club.

Mabedi has been overseeing the side in an interim capacity since Steve Komphela resigned in April. He was previously assisting Komphela, who recently took charge of Bloemfontein Celtic.

Motaung, who maintains Amakhosi will not rush the coaching appointment, believes Mabedi is not ready for the challenge of steering the Soweto giants.

"Mabedi definitely will never be the head coach of Kaizer Chiefs," Motaung said.

"He is a caretaker coach. He has been an assistant, that's why we got him as an assistant. He's got quality, he is delivering as an assistant. But being a head coach is something else."

Motaung joked that maybe he should apply for the job given the criticism he endures from fans when Chiefs are struggling.

"Actually I would apply for this job because when the team loses I get the flack, so maybe I should take over. When the team is not scoring, I must be a goal scorer. I must get the best striker. When the team is not winning, the coach and me ...

"So it is not in his task. We are going to be sober about it. The chairman [Kaizer Motaung] is very sober. The Kaizer Chiefs family is very sober, the organisation is very structured. We are going to make the right choice.

"But Mabedi so far is under good structures. He has shown it under pressure in the last three games [of last season], not because he is the hero but because of the structures of the organisation.

"We will support him all the way but coaching Chiefs is running a government. We must make sure we are sober and make the right decision."
