Highlands Park coach Owen da Gama has explained why they reported for pre-season almost a month before other PSL clubs.
Highlands started pre-season preparations on June 4, just a few weeks after the National First Division campaign was wrapped up. The problem, however, is that they struggled to get friendly matches because clubs were on a break during the time.
“Preparations have been very good. We went to Potch for 12 days and we did all the testing. We started a bit early just to get those things out of the way. The only frustrating thing is that there were no teams to play at this time of the year. The NFD teams were closed and PSL teams were on a pause as well. It was difficult but now we can get some momentum because all the teams are back now.”
Highlands will unveil their new players on June 25. Some of the players they’ve signed are Bevan Fransman and Lesenya Ramoraka, who was representing Botswana in the COSAFA Cup in Polokwane recently.
“Also there are some players that we signed who played in the play-offs and others who played in the COSAFA Cup. So trying to manage with regards to fatigue and recovery was challenging,” the former Bafana Bafana assistant coach says.
