Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Themba Zwane has issued his backing for teammate Percy Tau to make the switch to greener pastures in Europe.
Tau has been the subject of massive transfer speculation in recent weeks, being linked with a potential move to Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion.
The 24-year-old Bafana Bafana forward has grown in leaps and bounds for both club and country over the past two seasons, earning the PSL and KICK OFF Footballer of the Season titles following his showing in the 2017/18 campaign.
With negotiations between the two clubs believed to be at an advanced stage, it could be a matter of time before the deal is officially announced.
Zwane, meanwhile, believes the Sundowns academy graduate has proven his worth to be able to withstand the tests abroad, and feels the time is right for Tau to make the move.
“Personally, I feel it’s time for him to go. I feel he’s done a lot for the team, he has shown that he’s ready to play overseas,” Zwane tells KickOff.com.
“The way he plays, you can see he has matured and I think he can still go and learn more that side and improve his football to another level.”
With the prospect of losing Tau becoming inevitable, the club could be without two of their talismen in the new season following Khama Billiat’s recent move to rivals Kaizer Chiefs.
However, ‘Mshishi’ is unconcerned by his teammates’ departures, saying it is part of football, and backs the players lying in wait to make use of the opportunity to replace them.
“In football, these things happen and we need to adjust. We still have other players in those positions, so obviously we will cope,” he assures.
