Real Madrid release official Neymar statement over reported record bid for Paris Saint-Germain star

Real Madrid have released an official statement regarding their alleged world-record transfer bid for Brazil superstar Neymar, who's been cited as the ideal replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo.

Neymar, 26, has been strongly linked with a return to LaLiga just a season after completing a €222m (R3.5b) switch to the capital of France from FC Barcelona.

Amidst the growing talks of Ronaldo departing to the club, with Juventus emerging as front-runners for his signature - Spanish state television channel TVE claimed Los Blancos lodged an official bid for the Selecao superstar.

However, the 13-time European champions were swift to categorically deny the claims made yesterday via their official website.

"Real Madrid is surprised that the Spanish television has broadcasted absolutely false information without anyone from the club being contacted to comment on the alleged information that could easily have been denied," the statement read.
