Kaizer Chiefs reserve goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma has made his ambitions known ahead of the new season, while welcoming the recently added competition for game-time.

Chiefs have brought in a replacement for the departed Brilliant Khuzwayo in the form of Virgil Vries, who arrived on a free transfer after being released by Baroka FC last month.

The 27-year-old brings with him a wealth of experience, having featured for the likes of Maritzburg United, Orlando Pirates Windhoek and Golden Arrows prior to his brief stint at Bakgaga.

Bvuma, who made his Glamour Boys debut in April 2017, meanwhile, is undeterred by the addition of Vries and is adamantly targeting more game-time in the upcoming 2018/19 campaign, despite the presence of undisputed number-one Itumeleng Khune and fellow academy graduate Brylon Pieterse.

“[Pre-season] is tough, but I am enjoying it. There is healthy competition for places. Virgil is bringing in a lot of experience, and he’s a good goalkeeper,” reflected Bvuma on his club’s website.

“We are all helping each other. We are all looking forward to a competitive season. And when it comes to my personal ambitions, I would love to get some game-time.”

In training, the 23-year-old shot-stopper has named veteran striker Bernard Parker as the most challenging opponent, due to his perceived Ronaldo-esque technique, before adding that he has been picking up tips from some of the world's best gloveman at the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Russia.

“The best [shooter in training] is Bernard Parker, because he has a bit of the Ronaldo technique, with the ball swerving towards you,” he explained.

“I like England’s Jordan Pickford and Uruguay’s Fernando Muslera. I often watch actions of goalkeepers on YouTube and I learn from that. I will check, for example, how they position themselves for crosses into the box or how they come out for one-on-one situations.”
