SAFA sheds light on Banyana Banyana COSAFA Cup bonus delay

SAFA spokesman Dominic Chimhavi says allegations accusing the national football body of not paying Banyana Banyana after their COSAFA Cup triumph is all just a “storm in a teacup”.
Chimhavi comments follow after some players from the woman’s national soccer team went to the media claiming that they still have not received their winning bonuses as promised a week after returning from camp on June 11.
Speaking on condition of anonymity some of the players informed Power FM that it’s protocol to hand in their kit and other gear issued by SAFA, but they decided to keep some of the items in protest.
Desiree Ellis’s troops recently walloped Lesotho 6-0 to secure their place in the Women's African Nations Cup, set to take place in Ghana later this year.
According to Chimhavi the matter is currently being dealt with and is of high importance to SAFA.
“To be quite honest I don't see no issue here,” Chimhavi told KickOff.com.
“We as SAFA are not responsible for the delay in pay. We have sponsors and partners as well and we are also waiting on CAF.
“For example if a country in Europe wins a World Cup then FIFA is responsible for paying that particular country.
“Similarly it’s CAF that needs to sort out the winners from tournaments played in Africa.
“We believe some of the entities have cash flow problems which have resulted in the delay. But it's nothing from our side.
“It’s no secret that organisations all over are facing difficult times financially and this could be the case.
“To me there’s really no issue here. This is just a storm in a teacup.
“But we are giving this matter high priority,” Chimhavi concluded.
